UWA Men in Leadership Workshop
Friday 18th July 2008
9.00am to 1.00pm (followed by lunch)
Blue Room at Currie Hall
The University of Western Australia is committed to
developing leadership skills across its staffing body and seeks
different and innovative ways to approach capacity building in
this area. A conference entitled ‘Engendering
Leadership; Through Research and Practice’ is being
held at this University from 22-24 July 2008, representing a
partnership between the UWA Business School and Gender, Work
and Organisation.
The
Leadership Development for Women (LDW) programme has sponsored
the visit of Professor Jeff Hearn, one of the conference
keynote speakers. Jeff has written and lectured widely on
gender in leadership, and men in particular. We are fortunate
to have secured Professor Hearn to run a seminar on
Friday 18th July, specifically for men at UWA,
on the theme 'Men in Leadership'.
The workshop will explore how men:
- view the world
- interact with both men and women, lead and exercise
power
- engage with social responsibility, equity and diversity;
and
- deal with the way the language of masculinity is
constructed and the implications of this in a university
context, across administration, research and teaching
The main seminar will involve formal presentations from Jeff
Hearn along with the opportunity for interaction between
participants.
After lunch, from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, there is the option to stay
on for a deeper exploration and conversation with Jeff on areas
of personal interest related to working at UWA.
I would like to take this opportunity to invite you to
participate in this important seminar with a view to deepening
the ‘conversation’ around men in leadership at UWA.
You may register your details below.
Yours sincerely
Professor Dennis Haskell (English and Cultural
Studies)
